At the Telco Together Foundation, we understand that digital inclusion is about much more than just connectivity. It’s about ensuring opportunity, equity, and meaningful participation in today’s digital world. This is why we were proud to take part in the Communications Day (CommsDay) Regional & Remote Forum 2025, where our Executive Chair, Renee Bowker, highlighted the real and measurable impact the telecommunications industry is making across Australia.
Despite significant progress, too many Australians still face barriers to digital access. Whether due to affordability, limited infrastructure, or gaps in digital skills, these challenges prevent many from fully engaging in the social and economic benefits of a connected world.
However, through strong industry collaboration, we’re seeing tangible results.
Expanding Connectivity: Telcos continue to invest in infrastructure projects to bring reliable digital access to regional and remote communities.
Reducing Financial Barriers: Targeted initiatives are helping to keep vulnerable populations connected by lowering the cost of essential services.
Empowering Through Digital Skills: Digital literacy programs are equipping individuals with the knowledge and confidence to thrive online.
Programs like Optus’ Donate Your Data, which has connected over 6,300 Australians with free mobile data in FY24, and Telstra’s Connected Seniors initiative, supporting 11,000 older Australians this year with digital skills training, demonstrate how our industry is stepping up to meet these challenges.
As an industry, we have a responsibility to ensure no one is left behind in the digital age. The work continues, and the Telco Together Foundation is proud to collaborate with telcos committed to making a meaningful difference.
Looking ahead, the Telco Together Foundation will be publishing a comprehensive report on digital inclusion. If you have a digital inclusion project that you would like featured in the report, please get in touch with us at [email protected].
Together, we can bridge the digital divide and create a more connected and inclusive Australia.
