Community Projects

Creating strategic community projects that build on telecommunications technology, reach and resources to support the community and make a significant positive social impact, is a key stream of the Foundation's activities.

1. Text Giving Pilot Program

In a united initiative to support charitable giving in Australia, the country’s leading telcos – Telstra, Optus and Vodafone Australia – have launched a 12 month pilot program to test text giving for charities in Australia. Co-ordinated by a working group brought together by Telco Together Foundation, the pilot will involve up to 15 registered charities and commence in September 2015.  Click here to learn more

UNICEF Australia is the first text giving campaign to launch, donors can text the word 'SAVE' to 19958888 to donate $5 to UNICEF and help provide life saving medicine to children.

In March 2015, Australian charities were invited to submit an Expressions of Interest to participate in the pilot. Submissions closed Wednesday 8th April 2015 and selected charities were notified on May 6th 2015.

The Skills Exchange

Telco Together's The Skills Exchange is a series of 'match-making' events in Melbourne and Sydney that aim to create opportunities for charities to pitch a problem to a number of topic specialists,  with the aim of finding someone, or a group of people, interested in helping them solve that problem. Up to ten charities will be selected to take part in each event. Click here for more information.

3. On Bill Donations Pilot Program - 'Small Change Big Change'

Telco Together is currently trialling Small Change Big Change - an easy giving on-bill donations program for phone owners - with Commander customers, thanks to the M2 Group who volunteered to be the first telecommunications operator in Australia to trial the program. 100% of donations will go to Telco Together, supporting cause areas such as homelessness, mental health, Indigenous health and social inclusion. Our first community project - Apps4Change - launched in October 2013 and involves facilitating the use of mobile technology in a charitable context. Telco Together has developed the Apps4Change program to raise awareness in the not-for-profit sector about the use of mobile applications for improving service delivery and fundraising outcomes.

The Foundation is also in the process of developing a program that facilitates donations through Premium SMS technology.
