Staff from Vocus and Nokia’s Melbourne offices joined forces to lend a hand at Hamodava Café in Melbourne’s CBD in December. Hamodava Café is an initiative of The Salvos and is run from the basement of their headquarters in Bourke St, Melbourne. The café provides free breakfast, lunch and hot drinks to people from all walks of life, especially those living on the margins of society.
Nokia and Vocus volunteers spent close to a full work-day assisting with the preparation and serving of breakfast and lunch fo Hamodava Café patrons. In addition, volunteers helped with the café clean up once it had closed to customers. For a number of the telco staff, the day provided both their first volunteering experience and their first time working in a hospitality environment.
“Helping out at Hamodava Cafe was the best day of my working year. Everyone one should do this at least once, and then push our government to better support those who may need housing and support” - Gail
“I would like to thank The Salvo's and Telco Together for giving me the opportunity to help people in difficulty. It has been a memorable experience for me.” - Antonio
